The Grands Letter (GLJ)
Gene L. Jeffries, Th.D. on December 9, 2016 8:37 am (CST)Dear Grands,
Luke 2:1-5, โNow in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus,
that a census be taken of all the inhabited Earth. 2 This was the first census
taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 And everyone was on his way
to register for the census, each to his own city. 4 Joseph also went up from
Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called
Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, 5 in order to register
along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child.โ
Have you ever noticed how the political directives of human governments
turn out to be the directives of Almighty God? Is it likely that Joseph or Mary
would have viewed this journey as being from the LORD? Whether they did
would have depended on whether they knew the prophecy in Micah 5:2.
The distance from Nazareth in Galilee to Bethlehem in Judea was between
70 and 80 miles. They walked, Mary surely riding on a donkey. It was
probably not something they had anticipated other than knowing the
prophecy (if they knew or remembered it). But, they did what was politically
required of them, and it turned out to be just what the LORD required.
Weโre given a host of directives in life, many of which we view as wrong or
Irresponsible. Yet, when we obey them, we later see they were indeed the
directives of God. Just follow what your told to do. God is always in charge!
We love you and pray for you every day,
Nana & Dado III
