The Grands Letter

Dear Grands,

Philippians 4:6-7, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and

supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your

hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

I have a good friend I’ve never met. He lives in a far-away state and worries a lot.

He sends me “doom and gloom” email about things he believes are going to happen

to the world. ~ The Apostle Paul had friends like this, too. He told them –and us—

“STOP WORRYING!” Just pray and thank the LORD for what He has done and is

continuing to do on our behalf. When we follow that instruction, God’s peace

overflows into our lives! It is a peace beyond what we can imagine or explain.

And it signals the LORD’s guardianship over our innermost selves. Trust & Obey!

Dear Grands,

Luke 1:49, “’For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name.’”

There’s a old hymn that says,

Count your blessings, name them one-by-one;

Count your blessings, see what God hath done;

And it will surprise you what the LORD hath done.

When was the last time you counted your blessings?

We get down when things intrude into our lives; yet

the Bible tells us to count our blessings and rejoice!

You have no speech impediment, no facial scars, no

serious health problems; you are not impoverished

financially, you have a warm (and cool) home, a good

bed, sufficient nourishing food, friends; you have

good mental facilities. Just count your blessings!

We have you and count you as blessings, too!

Dear Grands,

Mark 14:50, “And they all left Him and fled.”

Jesus’ ministry on Earth was nearing an end. Mary had anointed

Him with oil, an act Jesus said was for His burial. The disciples

still doubted He would die. Peter avowed he would even die for

Jesus, seeming to overlook that Jesus would die for him. But,

when “push” came to “shove,” they all ran away. I receive notices

almost daily of Christians in other countries, who suffer even to

death, but without denying Jesus. We don’t have to literally run

away to deny Him. Silence is a way of denial. There’s an old

saying, “Sometimes silence is golden; sometimes it’s yella.”

If ever there were a time that we need to speak up for Jesus, it

Is today! Let’s not be like those who “left Him and fled.”

Dear Grands,

Psalm 73:16-17, “When I pondered to understand this, It was troublesome in my sight

17 Until I came into the sanctuary of God; Then I perceived their end.”

Psalm 73 really speaks to us in our day. The Psalmist started looking at the wealthy

around him, envying them and the possessions they had. Why was he not blessed

like they appeared to be? He just couldn’t figure it out –until he went “into the

sanctuary of God.” Then he understood. ~ Think how this speaks to your life. Do you

learn anything from the message your pastor preaches? (Hopefully, your cell phone

is only used for the Scriptures!) As a teen, I listened intently to my pastor’s messages,

asking the LORD to speak to me through them. He did! And I learned a lot! Try that

when you go to church tomorrow. Don’t just amble through things! Ask the LORD to

speak to you through the pastor’s message. Then, determine to be and do what you

hear Him say.

Dear Grands,

Mark 9:23, “And Jesus said to him, ‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.”

The passage tells us that the young boy (we don’t know his age) had been possessed of a

demon spirit that kept him from being able to speak. Further, the evil spirit caused him to

fall into harmful things like fire. The boy’s father said to Jesus, If you can, please help my boy.

Jesus then said, “All things are possible to him who believes.” Nothing is omitted. All things!

–If you believe. If you trust without doubting. Just think of it! Miracles are possible if we believe!!

But when you say, “Well, I’m sure that’s true, but…,” that but negates the very belief that occasions

the miracle. We are just too “world-centered.” We need to be “Heaven-centered.” Think about it.
