The Grands Letter (GLJ)
Gene L. Jeffries, Th.D. on January 31, 2017 8:15 am (CST)Dear Grands,
Luke 4:5-8, “And he led Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 And the devil said to Him, “I will give You all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. 7 “Therefore if You worship before me, it shall all be Yours.”
8 Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'”
Satan lost round one. Jesus would not turn the stones into bread. But Satan
does not give up easily. Have you noticed that in your life? He keeps coming
back with more alluring propositions. Here he (not the Spirit, but the devil)
led Jesus up into space and in a split-second, and there he promised everything
in exchange for a simple worship (bowing) before him. Sounds simple, doesn’t
it? But think! If Jesus were to bow before Satan, would Satan not be the one
to whom everything belonged? Would it not be Satan who would then be in
charge? Satan doubts whether Jesus will comply with his offer because he
says, “if You worship before me…” , maybe You will, maybe You won’t. Jesus
never changed His tactic with Satan. He again relied on the Word and repeated
Deuteronomy 6:13. Whatever temptation you and I encounter, we can always
rely on the Word of God as the source of true information and power to resist.
“Ask the Savior to help you,
Comfort, strengthen and keep you;
He is willing to aid you,
He will carry you through.”
