The Grands Letter

Dear Grands,

2 Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slow about His promise,

as some count slowness, but is patient toward you,

not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.”

In the verses preceding this one, Peter has been talking

about the LORD’s coming worldwide judgment on all

unrighteous men and women. Skeptics say, Oh, don’t

worry, that old story has been around for a long time.

It will never come to pass. But Peter says, It’s not like that.

The LORD isn’t slow, He’s patient. He doesn’t want anyone

to die and go to Hell. He wants everyone to “change his mind”

and faithfully trust in Jesus Christ as LORD and Savior.

Think of the most evil, ungodly person you know. Then

realize that the LORD wants to save him. That guy is so

terribly evil, he doesn’t deserve to be saved, you say. Oh,

but I love him, the LORD says. So we should pray for that

person and witness to him as much as possible, because

someone loved us and cared enough for our salvation.

May the LORD help and encourage us to love one another,

Dear Grands,

1 Corinthians 8:6-7a, “…for us there is but one God, the Father,

from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord,

Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.

7 However not all men have this knowledge…”

Anything that usurps God’s position as LORD is an idol. Satan

would have us to believe that he is god. He is not! Everything

we can see around us and things that are too small for us to see

–everything—has come from God. Implied in Paul’s teaching

are we ourselves. We have come from God, for we are part of

“all things.” Thus, we exist for God, the Father. Jesus Christ is

the Creator. He is the maker of all that we see and all that we

don’t see; and we exist through Him. Think of it like this: We

all have or have had pets. They exists for us. They do what we

say and go where we please. Yes, they have minds and instincts,

but we are their superior, so they mind what we say. As the

creation of God, we exist through Him and for Him. Yes, we have

minds and wills, too; but since He is our Master, we obey Him.

~ What is His intention for you? That is for you alone to discover

and to obey. Life is wonderful when you do what He intends! It

is horrible when you do not. Your choice!

Dear Grands,

2 Peter 3:8-9, “But do not let this one fact escape your notice,

beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years,

and a thousand years like one day.

9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness,

but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to

come to repentance.”

Nearing the close of his second letter to Jewish believers,

Simon Peter urges his readers (us included) not to let one

thing escape notice: “with the LORD one day is like a

thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.”

This small phrase has been as maligned as any other verse

in the Bible. Those who want to embrace evolution want

this verse to mean that the six days of creation are a thousand

years each. But look at the context. Peter is not talking about

creation here. He is simply saying that God does not reckon

time like we do. To Him, a thousand years is like a single day.

Therefore, what appears to us as a delay in God’s promised

Coming, is not a delay at all. He is simply giving mankind the

opportunity to repent of sin and come to Him in faith. Read

the Bible with great care. Jesus is Coming Again! Keep looking

for Him, so you won’t be caught off-guard.

Dear Grands,

Micah 6:8, “He has told you, O man, what is good;

And what does the LORD require of you

But to do justice, to love kindness,

And to walk humbly with your God?”

One of the simplest verses in the Bible that tells us

what the LORD requires of us. The Hebrew word

good (tob) also means, agreeable, pleasant. He

requires us to be just (mishpat) in all our dealings

with others. God hates injustice! Moreover, He

requires us to love kindness (chesed), which is

goodness and mercy –attitudes and actions that we

show to others around us. And finally, He requires

that we walk (live) humbly (tsana) before Him.

The LORD wants us to acknowledge Him as our

God and not act as if we were our own authority.

Now, we know. What will we do about it?

Nana and I are so proud of each of you. There

is not a snooty one among you all. We are always

better when we don’t think of ourselves as better.

But, we do need to recognize what gifts and talents

the LORD has given us. Just always remember

that the gifts are from Him, and not of yourselves.

They are always to be for His glory!

Dear Grands,

Hebrews 13:5-6, “Make sure that your character is free from the love of money,

being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, ‘I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU,

NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,’ 6 so that we confidently say, ‘THE LORD IS MY HELPER,

I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT WILL MAN DO TO ME?’”

In itself, money is not evil. But, the Bible warns sternly against the love of money.

We have what we have and it’s from the LORD. He Himself is worth far more

than all the money in the world. I read yesterday that Apple in now worth $900 billion!

Our current national debt is something like $19 trillion! Yet, our LORD is worth more!!

Two days ago a wealthy New York surgeon jumped from a tall building and took his

own life. His money didn’t save him; it didn’t even save him from the tragedy that

caused his death. Jesus said, “I will never desert you. I will never forsake you.”

So, whatever our situation in life, money is not the ultimate answer. “The LORD is

(our) Helper.” Stop fearing about everything! Say with the Psalmist, “The LORD is

For me, I will not fear; What can man do to me?” (Psalm 118:6).
