The Grands Letter

Dear Grands,

Psalm 20:5-7, “We will sing for joy over your victory,

And in the name of our God we will set up our banners.

May the LORD fulfill all your petitions.

6 Now I know that the LORD saves His anointed;

He will answer him from His holy heaven,

With the saving strength of His right hand.

7 Some boast in chariots, and some in horses;

But we will boast in the name of the LORD, our God.”

This is a Messianic psalm, meaning that it was focused

on the LORD Jesus Christ, despite being written in Old

Testament times. Still, it has an application to our

lives, as well. The promise of the psalmist is that we

will openly acknowledge that we belong to the LORD.

His prayer is also that the LORD would answer all our

prayers.

I had a conversation yesterday with a friend on Skype.

She had complimented me on something I had done

for her and that I was always available to help her.

I then replied that she had Someone far more able

than I –One who was always with her. Her answer

was simply “Yes.” Then I asked, “What is that One?”

When she did not answer over a long period of time,

I admonished her lovingly, saying that we must always

be ready to acknowledge Jesus Christ as our Friend,

Savior and LORD. She then said, “I know that you are

right.” This was important, because our prayers are

inextricably entwined with our relationship and

fellowship with Him. The world’s people boast of

what they know and what they have; but we are

out-spoken regarding Jesus!

Dear Grands,

Psalm 16:7-9, “I will bless the LORD who has counseled me;

Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night.

8 I have set the LORD continually before me;

Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices;

My flesh also will dwell securely.”

Who or what guides your life –what you do? This is

the problem most people have. They don’t have

purpose in their lives and don’t know the One who

is present to guide them. The psalmist is excited

because of the LORD! Day and night the LORD is his

counselor and defender. He is not shaken with fear.

His heart rejoices. He is at peace because he trusts

in the LORD.

We are not to be indifferent toward life. The LORD

has given us minds with which to think. But, when

our thoughts continuously center on Him, we find

ourselves moving in the right direction. Stay in the

WORD! Read it daily! Look for the LORD guidance

as you read. You will be amazed at what He does!

And you will never have need to be afraid.

Dear Grands,

Psalm 9:7-9, “But the LORD abides forever; He has established

His throne for judgment, 8 And He will judge the world in

righteousness; He will execute judgment for the peoples with

equity. The LORD also will be a stronghold for the oppressed,

A stronghold in times of trouble…”

The justice of this world is often flawed. Sheriff Joe Arpaio of

Arizona says that he was condemned unjustly. President Trump

has “indicated” that he will pardon Sheriff Arpaio. There is huge

injustice in the world-at-large. Contracts far too often are not

worth the paper on which they are written. People promise, but

do not keep their word. Honorable people are disparaged; crooks

escape justice and go free. But, it will not be so with the LORD!

His Throne exists for righteous judgment. He will judge the world

evenly and fairly –with equity. Moreover, He will be a stronghold,

a place of retreat, for those who are “crushed” in times of “distress.”

As the old chorus goes,

Cheer up, ye saints of God,

There’s nothing to worry about;

Nothing to make you feel afraid,

Nothing to make you doubt;

Remember, Jesus never fails,

So why not trust Him and shout?

You’ll be sorry you worried at all

tomorrow morning.

Dear Grands,

Job 11:7, “’Can you discover the depths of God?

Can you discover the limits of the Almighty?’”

At some point and in some way, we’ve all thought

to ourselves, “I’m pretty smart.” Well, we’re not!

And if you won’t take my word for it, read the Book

of Job. At one point, the LORD says to Job,

“”…I will ask you, and you instruct Me!” (Job 38:3).

Then, the LORD lays question after question on Job in

chapter 41 (I counted 71!). After that, Job pleads with God,
“’…I have declared that which I did not understand,

Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.

4 ‘Hear, now, and I will speak; I will ask Thee, and

do Thou instruct me’” (42:3-4).

It’s interesting that what we seek to know today through

“true science” and with all our modern technology, is a

search to discover what God already knows and spells

out for Job! No, we’re not as smart as we think. The

LORD spoke through the Psalmist when he said, “Be still,

and know that I am God….” (Ps. 46:10). So, we had

best trust His Word. He is able and willing to bless the

humble; but is equally able to crush the proud.

Dear Grands,

My Internet is once again functioning!

Job 19:25-26, “’And as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives,

And at the last He will take His stand on the Earth.

26 Even after my skin is destroyed, Yet from my flesh,

I shall see God…’”

It is difficult, if not impossible, to see and hear the News

today without the mention of suffering. Still, apart from

the suffering of our LORD Jesus on the Cross, there may

be no one who suffered as much as Job. One of the

wealthiest men of the East, Job lost everything –his cattle,

his children, his health—Only his wife was left to him, and

she said, “Curse God, and your suffering will be over.”

Yet, Job’s hope lay in his confidence that the LORD lives

and that He is his Redeemer!

Nana suffered immensely when her heart was giving out.

But, I will forever remember how in the midst of her

turmoil, she would look at me, smile and wink, as if she

knew all would ultimately be well. ~ Keep your focus on

the LORD. “’He has done all things well’” (Mark 7:37).

He will bring us through those difficult times and situations.

He is our Redeemer! Always keep your trust in Him!
