The Grands Letter (Psa/GLJ)
Gene L. Jeffries, Th.D. on November 10, 2020 7:54 am (CST)Dear Grands,
Psalm 3:1-8, “O Lord, how my adversaries have increased! Many are rising up against me.
2 Many are saying of my soul, “There is no deliverance for him in God.” Selah.
3 But Thou, O LORD, art a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head.
4 I was crying to the LORD with my voice, And He answered me from His holy mountain. Selah.
5 I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustains me.
6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me round about.
7 Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God! For Thou hast smitten all my enemies on the cheek; Thou hast
shattered the teeth of the wicked.
8 Salvation belongs to the LORD; Thy blessing be upon Thy people! Selah.”
Without question, the American election procedure has fueled the most enormous political rage in our lifetime! While
attorneys on both sides of the controversy seek to wiggle their ways through the legal labyrinth, many without legal
expertise are looking upward with the Psalmist and crying the words of David, “O LORD, how my adversaries have
increased!”
I am reminded of the old hymn, “Where could I go but to the LORD?” I have witnessed (as many of you have) television
personalities and their guests concluding their thoughts with “the LORD is in charge, and we look to Him for the solution.”
Perhaps, the LORD has delayed His resolution of this morass to cause us to see that He and He alone IS the solution!
The most encouraging note in this minor-keyed musical dilemma lies in verse four, where David seeks the LORD, and
says, “He answered me from His holy mountain.” God never answers prayers that are never prayed! He allows us to
“stew in our own juice,” as my mother used to say, until we come to the knowledge of Him as the only source of rescue.
Don’t miss noting that when the LORD answered David, David laid down and slept. And when he awoke, the LORD
sustained him. The LORD kept David’s mind and spirit from giving way under the stress of the situation. He does the
same for us.
All of this Letter has been couched in the curcible of a national referendum. Just don’t miss the fact that everything
in this Psalm relates to every possible situation you and I may encounter in our daily lives. A careful analysis of the
concluding verses (vv. 6-9) reveals that David envisions his battles as already victorious! The numbers of enemies is
inconsequensial. David sees the battle as the LORD’s; and it is already a victory to those who belong to Him. Do you
belong to Him? If not, you can be His by asking forgiveness for your sins and trusting Him just as David did. You will
then know the refreshment of a heart and soul –yours!—that He alone can produce.
Heartily in Christ Jesus,
(Dado III)
