The Grands Letter (2 Thess/GLJ)
Gene L. Jeffries, Th.D. on January 3, 2022 7:01 am (CST)Dear Grands,
2 Thessalonians 2:13-17, “But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.
14 It was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15 So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us.
16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace,
17 comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.”
“How many times do I have to tell you?” Well, how many times have you heard it? Parents and teachers who truly care don’t measure the number of times they have instructed those under their authority. The point is to keep saying what they need to hear until it all sinks in!
Paul repeats his instruction again. He seems never to tire of the repetition of what we ought to do. Paul is willing to restate his instructions as often as necessary until we get it right. Why is that necessary? God has saved us and purified us that we might pray and instruct others in His Word and His Way.
We are always to obey the LORD! One reason for our obedience is because the LORD loves us. If He did not, He would not desire for us to follow Him. It’s like a parent who repeatedly disciplines a child. Another reason is that His way always leads us to do right. We are through repetition encouraged to become responsible and follow the LORD.
Paul closes this area of the Scripture with an earnest prayer that we might have eternal comfort and be strengthened in our hearts as we labor in good works. Are you investing your time and effort is doing the LORD’s will for your life? Are you drawing closer daily to Him? And is your life drawing others closer to Him?
Heartily in Christ Jesus,
(Dado III)
