Dear Grands,

Hebrews 10:36-39, “For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.
37 FOR YET IN A VERY LITTLE WHILE, HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME, AND WILL NOT DELAY.
38 BUT MY RIGHTEOUS ONE SHALL LIVE BY FAITH; AND IF HE SHRINKS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM.
39 But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul.”

In reading this short passage of only four verses, I am reminded of Paul’s statement in his Letter to the Philippians,

“Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do:
forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on
toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 3:13-14).

There would be those who would take issue with Paul’s words in both passages, for he proclaims the LORD’s Coming “in a very little while.” Yet, that very phrase of five words must be accepted in the light of Paul’s timing. He had no knowledge how long it would be before the LORD would return; at the same time, it was (and is) a brief time when compared with the thousands of years since Creation.

Also, we have no knowledge of how much Paul knew when he wrote those words. For all we know, the LORD might have revealed the time of His Coming to Paul with the restriction of his making known the precise time. One thing Paul knew for certain: the righteous (are to) live by faith; and those who shrink back –those who refuse to believe– will meet with everlasting destruction.

We who know Him and profess to have been “born again” (born from Above) have faith that preserves the soul. I earnestly trust that you, my dear reader, have placed your trust in Jesus Christ alone. The Church proclaims salvation in the LORD, but the Church itself, like the baptism it administers, does not save. Only Jesus Christ, who died for our sins, is allowed to exercise salvation. And that comes by faith in Him alone!

Heartily in Christ Jesus,

(Dado III)
