Dear Grands,

Matthew 22:8-14, “Then he said to his slaves, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.
9 ‘Go therefore to the main highways, and as many as you find there, invite to the wedding feast.’
10 “Those slaves went out into the streets and gathered together all they found, both evil and good; and the wedding hall was filled with dinner guests.
11 “But when the king came in to look over the dinner guests, he saw a man there who was not dressed in wedding clothes,
12 and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without wedding clothes?’ And the man was speechless.
13 “Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

If you were invited to a formal dinner in your governor’s mansion, or by a high-ranking official in your nation’s government, how would you dress for the occasion? His name slips me as I write, but I do recall a male friend of one of President Nixon’s daughters going to the White House in a white turtleneck shirt. It startled some at the time as being “highly inappropriate.”

Luke gives us this parable of someone who was not appropriately dressed for the wedding to which he had been invited. It was the wedding of the man’s son! It is possible that the author’s use of the singular word son may refer to the very Son whom God the Father loved and gave to die on the cross for our sins.

To attend Christ’s wedding with His Church is exclusively allowed only for those who have accepted Him as LORD and Savior. Entrance into that union certainly requires righteousness as the proper dress. There are those who believe they will be there with Jesus Christ, but have never been properly dressed for that occasion.

Repentance of sin is the removal of “improper clothing.” Faithful trust in Jesus is the only acceptable attire for that glorious occasion! Do you know Him? “Believe in the LORD Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved…” (Acts 16:31). His invitation awaits your response.

Heartily in Christ Jesus,

(Dado III)
