The Grands Letter (1 Tim/GLJ)
Gene L. Jeffries, Th.D. on November 15, 2022 6:28 am (CST)Dear Grands,
1 Timothy 1:8-14, “…we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully,
9 realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers
10 and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching,
11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.
12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service,
13 even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief;
14 and the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus.
Words of a man in a recent publication took issue with the teachings of the Apostle Paul. That man wanted nothing to do with anything legal. It didn’t matter what anyone else thought or what was legally stated, he was simply against the law –all law!
We don’t have to imagine such a situation today, we live in it. All around us are those who just want to act according to their own desires. Laws, if such should even exist, should be whatever one wants them to be at the time. Shooting other individuals is, in their thinking, perfectly all right, provided that’s what the shooter wants to do! Never mind what the recipient or his friends think.
Those, who oppose the law and the apprehension of law-breakers, are willfully out-of-touch with the teachings of Scripture. And it is their being “out-of-touch” that causes commotion throughout today’s world!
Yet, amid all the commotion in today’s world, there are those who hold tightly to our LORD’s declaration. Paul had himself been a persecutor, a “violent aggressor,” as he himself put it. Yet, God showed Paul a better way. He was merciful to Paul, and He wants to show you that mercy. “The grace of (God) was more than abundant…” Faith and Love are offered to us.
Hopefully, you will receive it. Failure never exists with God. He loves you and wants you to love Him. Do you?
Heartily in Christ Jesus,
(Dado III)
