Dear Grands,

Numbers 32:19-23, “For we will not have an inheritance with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has fallen to us on this side of the Jordan toward the east.”
20 So Moses said to them, “If you will do this, if you will arm yourselves before the LORD for the war,
21 and all of you armed men cross over the Jordan before the LORD until He has driven His enemies out from before Him,
22 and the land is subdued before the LORD, then afterward you shall return and be free of obligation toward the LORD and toward Israel, and this land shall be yours for a possession before the LORD.
23 “But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD, and be sure your sin will find you out.”

Have you ever received a promise from a friend only to discover
that he was unwilling to live up to his promise? I’ve had some “friends” promise, “We’ll support you all the way! You just take the lead.” Then when their help was needed, they were nowhere to be found.

With all the misery Israel had endured reaching the Promised Land, she now comes to the point of crossing the Jordan, only to learn that some among them were unwilling to enter and live there. “We will establish ourselves on this side of the Jordan,” they said.

Moses was still in charge; and he agreed that they could live where they wished, except that they must first join and fight with their countrymen and secure the land for them. Then, having helped their brothers secure the land, they could return back across the Jordan and establish a permanent residence there. But to refuse to assist their brethren would be a sin against the LORD.

We need to be careful with what we promise. Consideration should be laid prayerfully before the LORD; and when He gives us His permission, we can rest assurred that He will keep His Word. Yes, there are some decisions that require an almost immediate answer. The key is to keep “prayed up” by keeping in close touch daily with the LORD. There is no better way. Don’t you agree?

Heartily in Christ Jesus,

(Dado III)
