The Grands Letter (Acts/GLJ)
Gene L. Jeffries, Th.D. on July 3, 2023 6:18 am (CST)Dear Grands,
Acts 17:24-31, “The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands;
25 nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things;
26 and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation,
27 that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;
28 for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we also are His children.’
29 “Being then the children of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and thought of man.
30 “Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent,
31 because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead.”
Not too long ago Arnold Schwarzenegger, former governor of the State of California and retired body builder, took a swipe at God by denying that He was Who He said He was. It was one of those “here today-gone tomorrow” news clips that really concerned no one – except God.
Schwarzenegger’s comment is hardly unique. Unfortunately, it is the comment of many thoughtless people in their attempt to fool themselves into believing that God really does not exist! Therefore, they feel free to mock Him at will.
The comment, however, reminded me of the little children’s rhyme of warning:
“Oh, be careful little tongue what you say,
Oh, be careful little tongue what you say.
For the Father up above
Is looking down in tender love,
Oh be careful little tongue what you say.”
Just imagine what I would look like, were I to make such a negative remark to Arnold’s face!
Rather than believe his mocking remark to be His genuine thought, it is my belief that the remark was intended to mask his true fear regarding a meeting with the Creator. People don’t generally make fun of things that don’t exist.
Our verses above say that there was a time when the LORD
simply overlooked such “things of ignorance”– but no more! God is
the Supreme Judge of the Universe! And He will one day soon sit in court judging the entire world population! Be careful that you have trusted Christ Jesus and surrendered to Him the entirety of your life. There will be no “second chance” in that day!
Heartily in Christ Jesus,
(Dado III)
