The Grands Letter (Josh/GLJ)
Gene L. Jeffries, Th.D. on July 17, 2024 6:16 am (CST)Dear Grands,
Joshua 1:1-5, “Now it came about after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, that the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ servant, saying,
2 ‘Moses My servant is dead; now therefore arise, cross this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them, to the sons of Israel.
3 ‘Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you, just as I spoke to Moses.
4 ‘From the wilderness and this Lebanon, even as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and as far as the Great Sea toward the setting of the sun will be your territory.
5 ‘No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you.’”
The life and ministry of Moses had come to an end. Yet, it was Moses who had died, not God. The promises that the LORD had made to Moses would be fulfilled to the letter! It is only that they would be fulfilled under the leadership of another.
Without question, Moses had faithfully served the LORD! Yet, the things that Moses expected to be fulfilled under his leadership, will now be the responsibility of Joshua. And the Land that has been promised will forever belong to Israel.
The challenge that Israel is experiencing today is but a continuation of the LORD’s promise. Her adversaries have different names; yet, through the ages foreign nations have continually challenged Israel’s right to possess the Land that God promised her! Still, Israel prevails.
What the LORD promises to us will be equally fulfilled. Our chief need is to be faithful in believing Him. His promises are rarely, if ever, fulfilled on our schedule. Yet they will be fulfilled!
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on
your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge
Him, and He will make your paths straight” (Prov. 3:5-6).
Heartily in Christ Jesus,
(Dado III)
