The Grands Letter (1 Chron/GLJ)

Dear Grands,
1 Chronicles 29:10-14, “So David blessed the LORD in the sight of all the assembly; and David said, ‘Blessed are You, O LORD God of Israel our father, forever and ever.’
11 ‘Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty; indeed, everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Yours is the dominion, O LORD, and You exalt Yourself as head over all.’
12 ‘Both riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all, and in Your hand is power and might; and it lies in Your hand to make great and to strengthen everyone.’
13 ‘Now therefore, our God, we thank You and praise Your glorious name.’
14 ‘But who am I, and who are my people that we should be able to offer as generously as this? For all things come from You, and from Your hand we have given You.’”
Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us: “There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven–” David had longed for the time when he would build the House of the LORD! Yet, it was not to be David. He was a man of war, and in the sight of the LORD, he had forfeited his right to be the builder. Solomon, David’s son, however, was a man of peace; therefore, the LORD had determined that he should be the builder of His House. Certainly, David was disappointed; yet, it was to be the LORD’s House, and it was His right to assign whom He wanted. In the hurry of daily life, we don’t often think things through as thoroughly as we ought.
The boy who wanted to be the pitcher of the baseball team quite simply didn’t have the perspective of his coach. The boy was not as prepared as he thought. We’re quite often like that. We long to engage in activities for which we are simply not spiritually prepared. And in such instances, we would do well to acquiesce in favor of those whose spiritual lives offer a better perspective on the outcome. The LORD always knows who is best for every task. He is God!
And it’s precisely at this point that prayerful examination of the entire situation should be undertaken. The LORD often uses prayer to reveal His will to us. So, let’s start praying!
