Dear Grands,

Psalm 32:1-8, “How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered!

2 How blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit!

3 When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long.

4 For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer. Selah.

5 I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I did not hide; I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the LORD’; and You forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah.

6 Therefore, let everyone who is godly pray to You in a time when You may be found; surely in a flood of great waters they will not reach him.

7 You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.

8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.”

Sin possesses a draining quality on human life. We wonder why we feel ill, yet there’s no indication of physical illness. Yet, something is wrong—but what? The energy to which we are accustomed has been depleted to the point of shear weakness. What on earth is occurring? Is it an illness? Do we need professional medical attention? Has it ever been your lot to feel like that?

David had committed a serious transgression. Of course, all sin is serious; but this was greater than anything he had committed heretofore. He knew it, but was unwilling to fully acknowledge it. Day after day, his body seemed to deteriorate. His mind would not allow him to confess. Yet, the weight of the sin ultimately got the best of him, and he was forced to acknowledge it openly before the LORD. When David ultimately admitted his transgression and confessed it to the LORD, the LORD forgave him, and his burden was lifted.

There are undoubtedly a host of transgressions that are masked, so as to conceal them from us. Illnesses persist, but not all illnesses are driven by personal sin. Sin swirls like the wind throughout the Earth; yet, it carries with it numerous illnesses masked as simply “physical.” We would all do well to examine ourselves thoroughly and acknowledge daily every known sin that infects us. The LORD is our faithful, Spiritual Doctor. His forgiveness is a sure and ready medicine for every sin.

Heartily in Christ,
